MediaCombo is a NYS and NYC certified Women-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE).

We believe that digital tools – virtual reality, websites, touch screen displays and other technologies – can be used to tell stories that help people to discover what’s important, to understand the present, to shape their future.

We’re always eager to explore new technologies but we never recommend using new tech for its own sake. We start by working with clients to define their message to be communicated, and their audience to be engaged, and select the tech that will best accomplish the goal. Recent collaborations between our team and our clients have produced illuminating and entertaining projects like these:

  • Creating stories in VR, not just capturing documentation, for Google Expeditions educational program for K-12 classrooms.

Our multi-disciplinary team is led by principals Robin White Owen and Michael Owen.

We tailor our creative and technical teams to meet the needs of each project. We work with a trusted group of user experience designers, graphic designers and developers on our interactive, mobile and web projects. We also have independent writers, DPs and video editors on our video team.

They all share our enthusiasm for our clients’ projects, our passion for excellent service and our dedication to delivering outstanding products.

Michael Owen

As a company principal, and a freelance producer, I have over 25 years of experience producing documentaries, commercials and music videos.

I’ve learned how to use the language of film to tell engaging stories tailored to specific audiences. I’ve gained a deep understanding of production and post-production technologies, and so I’m able to grasp quickly what a client expects to achieve from a production.

My career was influenced by producing music videos for The Talking Heads, Television and other bands at the now legendary club, CBGBs, way ahead of MTV. I’ve also had the privilege of working with directors such as Peter Sellars, Jim Jarmusch, Lindsay Anderson, Michael Apted and Sam Peckinpah on a variety of music documentaries.

As a partner in MICA TV in the 1980s I produced a series of short video art portraits of the artists Cindy Sherman, Richard Prince, Laurie Simmons and others. These have been shown on the BBC and Channel Four, as well as in museums around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of and The Whitney Museum.

As a company principal I’m devoted to helping my clients achieve their goals by creating the best possible experience for their audience. I focus on digital media product development and strategy, editorial content, website development and technology, and online user experience.

Connecting the viewer to the experience is the key to powerful communication, and in a visual environment, it’s the visual story that matters.

My attraction to visual storytelling began when I was a kid, hiking through the galleries of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, visiting my favorite paintings. I learned a lot more when I began interviewing artists like Brice Marden and John Cage, as the editor of View, a magazine published by Crown Point Press in San Francisco.

In the mid-‘80s I studied TV and video art, curating museum exhibitions, packaging series for public TV, and learning how to tell persuasive stories. From there it was a short leap to becoming a producer myself. Museums were my first clients – a nice coincidence!

The Hall of BioDiversity at the American Museum of Natural History was our first web and interactive project. Now I’m fortunate to be working with many cultural institutions, government agencies, foundations and others. Every day I’m inspired by the opportunities they offer, and by the digital technologies I can use to help them establish a bond with their audience and get their message across.
