Collections Central website: Brooklyn Children’s Museum

Collections Central web home pageMediaCombo’s mission was to give children an appealing way to explore online the collection of  toys, costumes, weapons and natural history objects that belong to the Brooklyn Children’s Museum (BCM).

Our challenge was to transform an off the shelf web application (eMuseum) designed to interface with the Museum’s TMS database, by creating an entirely customized look-and-feel to display objects and their data in a child-friendly way. For the Collections Central website we implemented new, kid-friendly search options and added activities, including a function that allows kids to draw their own versions of objects in the collection and send them to be saved on the Museum’s server.

Selected drawings are added to the database for display in Collections Central Online, and the admin tool allows museum staff to add new objects and new information with ease.
